Summary:
Eric Mohat commited suicide because of bully's he was at age 17. He was harassed by bullys calling him homo and gay and queer. Those bullys caused this teen to decide to commit suicide. The teacher and the athletic coach did nothing to help Eric from the bullies. So after he committed suicide, the parents of Eric sued the school for not helping Eric.
Reflection:
This is very shocking because he was an innocent kid that got bullied from some kids and then caused him to commit suicide, we need to raise awareness of this we can't keep having kids commit suicide because of someone else. The numbers have tripled over 25 years of 15-24 year old teens committing suicide.
Evidence:
- Eric's father said that "when you lose a child like this it destroys you in ways that you can't even describe.
- The school made a anti-bullying system.
- The teacher and athletic teacher failed to protect Eric.
- Parents filed a lawsuit.
Questions:
Why the teachers didn't even think of helping Eric?
Why didn't people try to help Eric? like his parents?
How do I raise awareness?

This is incredibly sad. I wonder if there are ever students at our school that feel this way? Although I would be surprised if students felt out right bullied by others for their sexual orientation, I do think saying comments like "That's so gay" need to stop. Unfortunately it has become common slang and most people don't mean to offend anyone when they say it, but it does have a negative connotation and can be very hurtful. I have heard that approximately 1 in 10 people are gay, so it is likely that someone overhearing this statement might be offended. I hope that anyone at our school would stand up and say something if they feel one of their peers is being bullied because of their sexual orientation. It doesn't need to happen in schools and this boys' life did not need to end.
